Launched in 2007, cargobike.com.au is the brainchild of owner Justin Mason, who founded it after looking for a car-free and environmentally friendly way to transport his three children around their Melbourne bayside suburb. The cargobike is not a new idea: it has long been a way of life for Dutch and Danish families who take children to kindergarten and carry groceries and flowers using this style of bike.

Whilst the European cargobike imports are extremely expensive in the Australian market, our cargobikes are more affordable as we have the parts made in China. We have a long-standing relationship with a reliable Chinese factory and have been working with them to refine the design of the bikes for over 4 years. The bikes are assembled in our Melbourne workshop and feature brand-name components and exterior grade timber. They are fun, reliable and user-friendly. All that for a fraction of the cost of the European imports.

Cargobikes are available from our workshop in Williamstown and our shop in Docklands (opposite the Polly Woodside) and we are more than happy for people to take one of our bikes out for a test ride. The bikes come with a guarantee and back-up service in Melbourne but can also be serviced by any bike shop as standard bicycle parts have been used. We can (and regularly do) ship our bikes interstate (flat packed) so if you’re not in Melbourne, don’t despair – we can still get a cargobike to you.
